In the first double header weekend for the season, the Smartskill Seahawks Women’s and Men’s teams fought hard on Saturday night against championship favourites, Southern Districts and backed it up with a trip up the mountain to face the Toowoomba Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Paula Jansen was impressed with her sides ability to compete with an older and more experienced Spartans roster.
“We really took it to them” Jansen said of her teams play vs Spartans. “The girls were confident and stepped it up and took on the challenge, so it was a great game to watch and we were really happy with the result”
Head Coach of the Men’s Seahawks team Brad Kann knew Saturday night’s game was going to be a tough ask, with an eye on the Sunday game vs Toowoomba always being the focus for the weekend.
“The Spartans squad could be the most talented roster in the competition” said Kann. “We knew we were going to have to do something incredibly special but they (Spartans) showed their polish on the night”
Jesse Lomax kept the scoreboard ticking over in the game vs Toowoomba, finishing with 21 points and 5 rebounds while Donovan Russell finished with a season high 15 points.
Our next game is vs Brisbane Capitals at Auchenflower this Saturday night. Our Smartskill Seahawks Women’s team tip off at 5pm, Men’s at 7pm.
