The SmartSkill Seahawks Women and Seahawks Men hit the road and head north this weekend, to take on Gladstone Port City Power on Saturday night.
With both teams sitting top 2 respectively on the ladder, with the SmartSkill Seahawks Women sitting alone in 1st undefeated, and the Seahawks Men only having 1 loss to their name, this weekend’s road trip taking both teams one step closer to qualifying for a finals berth.
The SmartSkill Seahawks Women will welcome back starters, Charli Reece and Krystle McKenzie, into the mix after sitting out through injury.
Head Coach for the SmartSkill Seahawks Women, Brad Kann, is looking forward to the challenge of hitting the road and building some resilience through the group.
“It’s really our only chance where we get to go on the road and experience being around each other for more than a normal game night” said Kann.
“It’s important for the group that we treat this road game as a business trip and go in and execute our game plan”
“It’s also important and exciting for us to be able to get on the road and extend on our culture as a group off the floor”
“Our focus has been our discipline and this weekend provides the opportunity for us to be tested on this as a group, both on the floor and off the floor”
The North Gold Coast Seahawks Men will see some adversity this weekend, with key veterans Rhys Martin and David Gurney unavailable to play due to injuries and commitments.
They will be facing a winless Gladstone men’s team, who will be looking to get their first win on the board in front of their hometown fans.
Head Coach, Jordan Mullan, is looking forward to getting his young brigade on the road and giving opportunities to all of his players.
“We said at the start of the season that there will be opportunities for everyone to play, whether it be through injuries or starters being unavailable, and that everyone needs to stay ready” said Mullan.
“This is a perfect example of that scenario, where we have come off two tough games this previous weekend and into our 3rd game in 7 days, so I’m looking forward to see who steps up and takes control and puts their best foot forward”
“We know the value that both Gurney and Martin bring to our group, and they are huge holes to fill, but I know that we have the depth in our list to get this done”
“As Brad mentioned, I’m looking forward to getting on the road with this group of young men and continue to develop their professionalism on and off the floor”
The QSL 2 Men’s team have a Bye this coming weekend.
