For the first men's announcement of the 2021 Queensland State League season, the North Gold Coast Seahawks would like to welcome David Gurney to the Nest for this upcoming season.

Gurney, a veteran of the Queensland Basketball League, who also had a taste of National Basketball League action in his career, is a welcome addition to a relatively young and uninitiated Seahawks Men’s team.

Gurney was a powerhouse in the mid to late 2000’s, with all scouting reports having Gurney at the top of their list of players to stop.

When it comes to being invested into the Seahawks association, Gurney is currently the reigning Coach of the Year, Head Coach of the Under 12 Boys Teal team. He also has his children, Mia and Dusty, both playing Representative Basketball for the Seahawks and wife Melissa is an assistant coach for the Under 14 Girls Teal team.

Head Coach of the North Gold Coast Seahawks Basketball team, Jordan Mullan, believes Gurney’s addition to the team is a vital first step towards the Seahawks returning to the winner’s circle in 2021.

“Dave has an incredible playing resume, from his junior career making State teams all throughout, to his senior career where he averaged 20+ points his whole career in Toowoomba and on the Gold Coast” said Mullan

“He will offer us options at both ends of the court, with his ability to put the ball on the floor and finish from the perimeter, to him able to use his physicality and size to defend bigger, stronger bodies on the defensive end”

“He and his family are massive assets to us on and off the floor”

Gurney said he felt nervous about his return to the court.

“It’s a been a while since I have played but I’m pretty pumped to be back on the court” said Gurney.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and the kids have wanted to see me play, so it will be pretty special to be able to line up in front of them as well as the rest of the family”

“Hopefully muscle memory kicks in at some point and I can help the team to a few wins along the way”

Keep an eye out for more player announcements coming soon
