This Saturday our Smartskill Seahawks Women and Seahawks Men face up against the Brisbane Capitals at Auchenflower.
With both teams coming off a tough double header, this Saturday night’s game will critical for the remainder of the season for the Smartskill Seahawks Women’s team as they currently sit in 9th spot on 2 Wins 3 Losses.
“There are currently five teams on 2 wins so far, meaning we need to start stringing some wins together” said Head Coach Paula Jansen.
“Our for and against is pretty strong, so if we can continue to pick up some wins it will keep us in the hunt for finals contention”
“Brisbane are obviously playing some really good basketball right now and have some really high-level players in Georgia Woolley (20ppg & 10rpg) so we need to go in with the same mentality as we did against Southern Districts and play hard for the entire game”
It will be somewhat unusual ground for the Seahawks Men as they will be matching up against Seahawk Junior Cameron Goldfinch on Saturday night.
Goldfinch made the choice to stay in Brisbane to form a connection with current Bullet and Australian Boomer, Jason Cadee.
Goldfinch is currently having a career year averaging 18ppg and 7rpg. That along with Cadee (17ppg, 6apg and 4rpg) and Jarred Bairstow (23ppg, 5.8apg and 12.4rpg) will make it a tough matchup for the young Seahawks team.
Head Coach of the Seahawks Men’s team Brad Kann understands the way his team needs to play against the highly talented Capitals.
“They are long and athletic” said Kann.
“They switch everything on the defensive end, so our guys need to be ready to put heat on the hoop and attack from the start”
“We were disappointed we were unable to put together consecutive possessions to build momentum throughout the game – on both sides of the ball so our focus this weekend will be to this”
