Seahawks is happy to announce the appointment of Rob Johnson as the association’s Skills Development Coach. In addition to his primary role Rob is the 2018 SBL women’s head coach and assistant QBL coach.
Rob’s has several key focus areas. 1) skills development of all Seahawks juniors and 2) growing the girl’s junior program building on the success of our current under 16 and under 18 premier league teams and our champion SBL women’s team.
Rob is a certified level 2 coach, a past State League player and former Toowomba QBL women’s head coach and will work closely with Player and Coach Development Manager, Adam Tyrus and Seahawk’s coaches. Stay tuned for a further announcement soon on player development.
The North Gold Coast Seahawks will be ascending into the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) following their dominance in the Southern Basketball League (SBL) over the past decade. The Northern Gold Coast based association will be fielding a men’s and a women’s team in the 2018 QBL competitions, in addition to continuing the SBL program for our upcoming juniors.
The association will be investing over $20,000 to the program which will include attracting professional players from the U.S.
President Angelo Raguz has lead the charge towards the league. “We have had the same core group of players now for a number of years. They have been incredibly successful and they now need to showcase their skills against the best in Queensland.”
Recently the North Gold Coast Seahawks women’s team defeated the Northside Wizards by over 50 points in the grand final of the SBL following an undefeated season. The men’s team have won 4 titles and been runners up twice in the past 8 years and the women have won a total of 3 titles and been runners up once since 2013.
The QBL is loaded with talented players from around the world including the NBL and WNBL. This next step in the Seahawks development pathway will provide the ideal stepping stone to develop their up and coming junior players. Seahawks place in the QBL ensures that their high performing Seahawks playing overseas in the US college system can return to Seahawks to play top flight basketball, rather than being left to play for other QBL teams.
The club has already reached agreements with foundation partners Griffith University and Bendigo Bank and will be making a series of player and coach signing announcements over the next few months.
With the Northern end of the Gold Coast booming, it’s only fitting that the region is represented in a Statewide competition. The Club is now pushing for the North Gold Coast business community to get behind the program.
North Gold Coast Seahawks were established in 1996 with the construction of the Runaway Bay Indoor Sports Stadium. Since then the association has grown to having 1500 members and are looking to continue this growth as well as creating a stronger pathway for its 1200 junior players.
North Gold Coast Seahawks have a range of sponsorship and membership packages available including a limited supply of Corporates Boxes. For more details continue to navigate this site or contact General Manager Kerran Evans on kerran.evans@seahawksbasketball.com.au
